It remembers which items need individual priced labels, which need un-priced barcode labels and which already have barcodes. Customer ordered parts will include name and phone number and an SMS or Email can automatically be generated telling them that their parts are in.
Customer display monitors (like in the more modern supermarkets) can show customers related items or special offers. It can show pictures, video or internet content, so for example if there is a big race on, you can show it live so they do not miss any of the action while they are buying. In addition it shows what is being rung up on the computer register which helps security.
